Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup fresh blackberries (plus extra for decorative garnish)

1 tablespoon fresh sage, finely chopped

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons blackberry syrup or fresh blackberry juice

1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together using a hand mixer or stand mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes. Add the egg and pure vanilla extract, beating until fully combined and smooth.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, kosher salt, and ground cinnamon until well mixed.

Incorporate Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing on low speed until just blended. Carefully fold in the fresh blackberries and chopped sage using a spatula, taking care not to overly crush the berries.

Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up, which will make it easier to shape the cookies.

Preheat the Oven: While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Shape the Cookies: After chilling, scoop out portions of dough using a tablespoon and roll them into balls. Arrange the cookie balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading during baking.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges turn lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Glaze: In a small mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, blackberry syrup (or juice), and milk. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. Adjust the glaze's consistency if needed by adding a little more milk for a thinner glaze or more powdered sugar for a thicker glaze.

Glaze the Cookies: Once the cookies have completely cooled, drizzle the blackberry sage glaze generously over the tops. For added flair, garnish each cookie with a few fresh blackberries and a light sprinkle of finely chopped sage.

Serve: Delight in your warm blackberry sage glazed cookies paired with a lovely cup of tea or coffee!

Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Yields: Approximately 24 cookies

Presentation Tips: For an eye-catching presentation, arrange the glazed cookies on a decorative platter and create a small mound of fresh blackberries in the center. Drizzle a little extra glaze around the edges for a beautiful finishing touch.
