Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey

Zest of 1 lemon

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs

1 egg, beaten

4 whole grain burger buns

Lettuce leaves (for serving)

Sliced tomatoes (for serving)

Avocado slices (optional, for serving)

Tzatziki sauce or plain yogurt (optional, for spreading)

Instructions

Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey with lemon zest, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped cilantro, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, breadcrumbs, and the beaten egg. Using your hands, mix the ingredients gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the burgers tough.

Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 3/4 inches thick. To ensure even cooking, make a small indentation in the center of each patty.

Chill the Patties: Arrange the patties on a plate and cover them with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This chilling step helps the patties firm up, making them easier to cook without falling apart.

Cook the Burgers: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or skillet to prevent sticking. Cook the turkey patties for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown on the outside and reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Toast the Buns: While the burgers are cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until they are lightly golden and slightly crispy.

Assemble the Burgers: On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a crisp lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked turkey patty. Top with sliced tomatoes and avocado slices if desired. Add a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce or yogurt for an extra layer of flavor, then cap with the top half of the bun.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the burgers immediately alongside your favorite side dishes, such as sweet potato fries or a fresh, crisp salad for a complete meal.
