Ingredients

1 cup cooked quinoa (ensure it is rinsed and drained)

1 medium sweet potato (approximately 1 cup, peeled and diced)

1/2 cup black beans (cooked and drained)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (gluten-free option available)

1/4 cup diced onion (yellow or red for a sweet touch)

2 cloves garlic (minced finely)

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (for a smoky flavor)

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (adds warmth)

1 tablespoon fresh cilantro (chopped; optional for freshness)

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking the burgers)

Optional toppings: sliced avocado, fresh lettuce, sliced tomato, and your choice of sauce (such as tahini or salsa)

Instructions

Prepare the Sweet Potato: In a pot, bring water to a boil or set up a steamer. Add the diced sweet potato and cook until tender, approximately 10-15 minutes. Drain the sweet potato and allow it to cool for a few minutes until manageable.

Mix Ingredients: In a spacious mixing bowl, take the cooked sweet potato and mash it with a fork or potato masher until you achieve a smooth consistency. To this, add the cooked quinoa, black beans, breadcrumbs, diced onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, chopped cilantro (if using), along with a sprinkle of salt and black pepper. Stir well to blend all ingredients evenly.

Form Patties: With clean hands, divide the mixture into equal portions, shaping each into burger patties. You can make approximately 4-5 patties depending on how thick you prefer them.

Cook the Burgers: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, gently place the patties into the skillet. Allow them to cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serve: Assemble your burgers on your preferred choice of bread or a lettuce wrap. Add on the toppings like avocado slices, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and your selected sauce. Serve immediately while warm, and enjoy the delightful flavors!

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 4 burgers

              - Presentation Tips: For a vibrant display, serve the burgers on a platter next to the toppings, allowing guests to build their own creations. Adding a sprinkle of chopped cilantro on top can enhance visual appeal.
