3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup chicken broth

1 cup grated cheddar cheese (divided)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (divided)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (a blend of oregano, basil, and thyme)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for a crunchy topping)

Preheat the Oven: Begin by setting your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's hot and ready for baking.

    Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions, aiming for an al dente texture. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set aside.

      Blanch the Broccoli: If you're using fresh broccoli, add the florets to the pot of boiling pasta during the last 2 minutes of cooking. This will blanch the broccoli to a perfect tenderness. Drain the broccoli along with the pasta and set both aside.
