Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats

1/2 cup almond flour (or substitute with all-purpose flour)

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup maple syrup (or honey for sweetness)

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup diced apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)

1/2 cup raisins or chopped walnuts (optional for added texture)

1 tablespoon coconut oil (or melted butter)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to preheat at 350°F (175°C). While it's heating, prepare an 8x8-inch baking dish by either lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it to prevent sticking.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, almond flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Stir the ingredients thoroughly to ensure they are well distributed and evenly blended.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, applesauce, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and fully incorporated.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined—avoid over-mixing! Carefully fold in the diced apples, and if you choose, add the raisins or chopped walnuts for a delightful crunch.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the combined mixture into the prepped baking dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly, ensuring a uniform height throughout.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes. The squares are done when the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Slice: After baking, remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10-15 minutes. Carefully lift the squares out using the edges of the parchment paper and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Once fully cooled, cut into squares.

Serve: These delectable squares can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature. They make an excellent grab-and-go breakfast or a delightful sweet snack any time of day!
